Greenhorns Documentary & Farmer Social with Friends of Family Farmers!
Sunday, October 10, 3:30-8:00pm
@ Naomi's Organic Farm Supply
2500 SE Tacoma (at 99E)
Portland, OR 97202
We're SO excited to be hosting a farmer gathering this fall! Plans are in progress and will include yummy food, a root vegetable tart contest, workshops, music and much fun. The evening will include screening of the Greenhorns' documentary film footage, some socializing and networking, and best of all, dancing! More details coming soon. **Please know that although the Greenhorn project emphasizes uniting young farmers, you neither need to be young nor a farmer to come! Any folks passionate about farming of all ages are welcome.
"The Greenhorns documentary film, now in post-production, explores the lives of America's young farming community - its spirit, practices, and needs. It is the filmmaker's hope that by broadcasting the stories and voices of these young farmers, we can build the case for those considering a career in agriculture - to embolden them, to entice them, and to recruit them into farming." --http://www.thegreenhorns.
The Greenhorns organization hosts community gatherings around the country in the same vein as ours: here's what they have to say:
"These events provide a venue for networking, socializing, skill-sharing, telling stories, confirming gut feelings, sharing equipment, sharing insight, and building community relationships and team-strength. As we work to represent young farmers, communicate about young farmers, connect young farmers, and gather resources for young farmers -- it really helps to spend time listening to the banter, concerns, and gossip of our constituents, particularly as we start focusing our energy around the coming Farm Bill. The technology needed to gather that critical insight is not complicated: a few bulletin boards, good beer, a bonfire, a farm, a seasonal/technical theme, + a posse of cohorts. If there are others of you interested in convening these gatherings, supporting these relationships and throwing some parties...please be in touch!"

"Without bees, Albert Einstein said, “man would only have four years of life left.” From the director of THE REAL DIRT ON FARMER JOHN comes a profound, alternative look at the tragic global bee crisis. Juxtaposing the catastrophic disappearance of bees with the mysterious world of the beehive, QUEEN OF THE SUN weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heart-felt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world. Featuring Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk and Vandana Shiva, QUEEN OF THE SUN reveals both the problems and the solutions in renewing a culture in balance with nature."
